Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded the resignation of NDPP legislator of 58 Shamator-Chessore constituency, S Keoshu Yimchunger on the ground that the government has betrayed and failed to uphold the credentials of Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) before the people and the Congress.
NPCC president K. Therie pointed out that the Congress had agreed with YTC not to setup its candidate for bye-poll held in October 2021. Therie said his party was told that if NDPP candidate returned uncontested, Shamator would be upgraded to a district.
Therie said Congress party trusted YTC and so refrained from filing nomination in support of Shamator’s up-gradation to district. Therie expressed regret about the betrayal by the UDA government even after the NDPP candidate was elected unopposed adding it was like paying in advance for the promise. He said while his party took it as a “sincere and honest commitment” but that “such dishonesty is not expected from an experienced chief minister.”
Therie further slammed the January 7 cabinet decision on formation of a third party, saying it was done so with an intent to delay and shift the responsibility. He said the unrest created in the minds of Yimkhiung community, was the result of a commitment without application of mind.
