YAA’s 24-HR ULTIMATUM ON GOVT TO REVOKE BAN
Set against the backdrop of tension between the Yimchungers and Tikhirs over the issue of holding the golden jubilee of Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) and the state cabinet on January 2, disallowing the proposed jubilee celebrations from January 7 to 10, to prevent any unwanted situation, the Yimchungru Hoho & Western Yimchungru Student’s Union held a joint meeting on January 3.
WYH president P.K.F. Tochu, general secretary Atsumong, president WYSU Amos and general secretary Tsukhumong, stated that the two bodies resolved to demand revocation of the government order to disallow celebration of the golden jubilee by serving a 24-hour ultimatum that came into effect on January 3 from 8 p.m.
According to WYH and WYSU, the meeting held unanimously resolved to support the three-point charter of demand adopted by the Yimchungru Tribal Council(YTC) and the Yimchungrü Akherü Arih-ako (YAA)which asked the chief minister to revoke the order issued by the home department , as reported in a section of the local media.
WYH and WYSU asserted, that the decision of the cabinet to disallow the proposed Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako golden jubilee to be held at Shamator (from January 7 to 10, 2015) “has hurt the pride and sentiment of the Yimchungru Naga.”
The two organisations have also condemned the “sudden change of direction” by the chief minister and the cabinet against holding of the jubilee celebration.
They said with three days left for the jubilee program, the order has hurt the pride and sentiments of the Yimchungrus and most importantly, the morale of the student community which has been let down by the government.
They also mentioned, that the Yimchungrus being one of the 16 major tribes of Nagaland, had played a pivotal role in the creation of Nagaland but has been sidelined by the government at this hour.
Both WYH and WYSU condemned the “unjustified action of the state government” in sidelining two elected representatives of the Yimchungru community- Torechu and R. Tohanba.
They said the state government had taken a “very hasty decision” in not consulting the above elected representatives and termed it as “very unconstitutional.”
WYH and WYSU said instead of working tirelessly to maintain peace and tranquillity within Shamato sub-division, the government instead, disallowed hosting of the golden jubilee celebration of the YAA.
They warned, that the government order could only further aggravate the law and order situation and for which the government would be “held solely responsible.”
The two urged upon the state government to honour the three-point charter of demands by the YTC and YAA including revocation of the order disallowing celebration of the YAA golden jubilee.
YAA,YTC summon
Meanwhile, YAA, in a joint statements issued by YTC president Z.Keozih and YAA president Akiuba TS, informed all Yimchunger leader to immediately reach Shamator by January 5, 2016 “without fail”. They also pointed out that earlier on January 3, they had submitted a 24-hour ultimatum on the state government against “disallowing” the proposed YAA golden jubilee at Shamator on January 2,2016.
Further YTC and YAA informed, that in the event of non-fulfilment of their demands, all Yimchungers were directed to “be prepared and ready for any eventuality”.
TSU calls of strike
Tikhir Students Union (TSU) president S. Longkamse and general secretary Temong Y. Tikhir informed, that on receipt of the DC Tuensang’s notification dated January 3,2016, the Union has decided to temporarily called off its proposed strike against the golden jubilee celebration at Shamator by the Yimchunger Student’s Union which started on January 3 with effect from 8 p.m.
While expressing appreciation of the state government for “positively responding” to its memorandum, TSU appealed to the government to “adhere to the standing notification and impose necessary rules and action against YAA from holding the YAA golden jubilee in Shamator in order to prevent untoward incident.
Further, TSU warned, that in the event of failure to impose necessary law and order situation, it should not be held responsible in any manner.
Govt advisory: In view of the prevailing circumstances at Shamator town between Tikhirs and Yimchungrus, the state government has requested the local print media to use discretion while publishing reports, information or press statements from the two communities that could vitiate the fragile atmosphere in the area and likely to cause law and order situation.
