Shanjothung Ngullie of Kendriya Vidyalaya School Kohima (KVSK) emerged as the champion of the 8th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship organized by Fountain Club Kohima (FCK) in partnership with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) held on October 3 to 4 at Capital Convention Centre Kohima.
In the final round, Ngullie could correctly spell two words “Requiem” and “Valetudinarian” consecutively to claim the title and walked home richer with a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 sponsored by Rusemtong Longkumer. Aloino Hope from Olympic Higher Secondary School Zunheboto bagged the second prize and received a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 sponsored by K. Sekhose. Aneidi Sanio from Baptist Mission School Kohima and Nimewe-u Christabel Khalo of Kendriya Vidyalaya School Kohima bagged 3rd and 4th position and received Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
The cash prizes for 3rd and 4th positions were sponsored by Lithrongla Rutsa and Khovi Thaprü respectively. The students who reached quarter finalists included Keletsole Mekro from C.D King Higher Secondary school Kohima, Mhalo E.Humtsoe from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Notsonu Yiene from Loyala Higher Secondary School Jakhama and Keneino Thorie from Trinity School Phesama, all were awarded with Rs. 5000 each sponsored by Medo Yhokha and Peter Zashümo.
Liza Jakob of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur bagged the young speller award and received a cash award of Rs. 4,000 sponsored by NSF president Ninoto Awomi.
Member secretary, Nagaland Pollution Control Board Nagaland Dr. Kenei Miachieo, graced the valedictory function as the guest of honour and gave away prizes to the winners.
Vipopal Kintso was the chief judge. Other judges included Dr Theyiesino Keditsu, Daniel Thong, Ani Sekhose, Sonian and Rosemary Achumi. Altogether, 61 students from 23 schools from Kohima, Dimapur, Zunheboto and Wokha took part in the championship.
