Imphal, Jun 9 (PTI): Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Tuesday said confering the Shaurya Chakra on two defence personnel from the state brought immense pride to the people.
His remarks came after Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh of 11 Para (Special Forces) and Rifleman Manglem Sang Vaiphei of 3 Assam Rifles, both from Manipur, were awarded the Shaurya Chakra on Monday for displaying raw courage, unparalleled bravery and total disregard for personal safety in the line of duty.
President Droupadi Murmu conferred seven Kirti Chakras, 15 Vir Chakras, and 29 Shaurya Chakras to the personnel of the defence forces, Central Armed Police Forces and state or Union Territory police forces.
The Shaurya Chakra is India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award.
Extending congratulations to Leishangthem, Singh, in a social media post, said, “His courage, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to duty bring immense pride to Manipur and serve as an inspiration to generations of young Indians.”
The CM saluted Leishangthem’s valour and commitment to the nation.
He also extended congratulations to Vaiphei for “his exceptional courage, tactical acumen, and distinguished service during a counter-infiltration operation”.
Vaiphei hails from the Churachandpur district.
In another post, Singh said, “His (Vaiphei) gallantry and dedication to the nation bring immense pride to Manipur and inspire our youth to serve with honour, commitment, and patriotism.”
BJP state president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, on behalf of the party, said the two brave sons of Manipur have displayed “extraordinary courage, unwavering dedication to duty, and selfless service to the nation”.
“Their acts of gallantry in the face of grave danger embody the highest traditions of valour, sacrifice, and patriotism,” she said.
“The people of Manipur take immense pride in their remarkable achievements and salute their steadfast commitment to protecting innocent lives and safeguarding the sovereignty and security of our nation,” she added.
