Shena Old Union Kohima (SOUK) expressed deepest anguish and strongly condemned the cowardly hit-and-run incident that occurred on January 23 by one Innova Hycross at 5th Mile Chumoukedima NH-29, resulting in the death of Late Akhebo Kits, an innocent civilian.
A press statement by SOUK stated that the heartless act, where the perpetrator fled the scene without providing assistance to the victim, was an unforgivable crime against humanity, adding that such incidents highlight dangerous lack of empathy and respect for human life on our roads.
SOUK also requested law enforcing agencies to ensure that the perpetrator face maximum penalty under section 106 (2) of BNS 2023, and ensure that the victim family receive prompt legal and financial compensation, as mandated under the motor vehicles Act.
SOUK further appreciated all rank and files led by Commissioner of Police Dimapur and Officer in-charge of Chumoukedima police station in apprehending the accused after a long run on February 10. The Union further cautioned any individual or group involved in bailing out the accused.
