DIMAPUR, JUNE 18 (NPN): Shining Star Taekwondo Academy (SSTA) emerged as the overall team champion at the Dimapur District Taekwondo Championship 2026, securing an impressive tally of 26 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Dream Works Taekwondo Academy (DWTA) finished as the first runners-up with 12 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze medals, while Chini Aier Memorial Taekwondo Academy (CAMTA) was adjudged the recipient of the Best Discipline Award.
Among the individual honours, Nilovito Swu of Dream Works Taekwondo Academy was named Best Fighter (Male), while Manyata Chand of Shining Star Taekwondo Academy received the Best Fighter (Female) award. In the poomsae category, Sanjay Chetri of Dream Works Taekwondo Academy was declared Best Poomsae Male, while Kinayala Aier of Chini Aier Memorial Taekwondo Academy was awarded Best Poomsae Female.
The championship witnessed participation from numerous taekwondo clubs, academies and educational institutions from across the district, including Chini Aier Memorial Taekwondo Academy, Dream Works Taekwondo Academy, Shining Star Taekwondo Academy, Dimapur City Taekwondo Club, Dimapur Taekwondo Academy, Yimkong’s Taekwondo Club, The Combat Academy, Kuda Taekwondo Academy, Ultimate Self Defence, Indian Taekwondo Tigers, No. 1 MGAR Taekwondo Club, Hollotoli School, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco Taekwondo Academy.
The event featured competitions across poomsae and kyorugi categories for sub-junior, cadet, junior and senior divisions. Several athletes delivered outstanding performances throughout the championship.
In poomsae events, notable winners included Mhachen Patton (DWTA), Shiriti Bora (SSTA), Lakhan Chetri (SSTA), Taochiren Aier (CAMTA), Ritvik Das (DWTA), Kinayala Aier (CAMTA), Sanjay Chetri (DWTA) and Kezevino Seiye (DWTA).
In the kyorugi division, medal winners emerged from various weight categories, highlighting the depth of talent among the participating academies and schools. Outstanding performances were recorded by athletes such as Nilovito Swu (DWTA), Lakhan Chetri (SSTA), Manyata Chand (SSTA), Kezevino Seiye (DWTA), Avijit Ningthoukhongjam (DWTA), Ayush Kumar Prasad (DCTC), Fiona Rongpipi (SSTA), Taochiren Aier (CAMTA), Rishi Daimary (SSTA) and several others.
Organisers said the championship provided an important platform for young taekwondo practitioners to showcase their skills, gain competitive exposure and promote the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline.
The successful conduct of the event reflected the growing popularity of taekwondo in Dimapur and the steady development of the sport at the grassroots level.
