Highlighting the issue of staff shortage at district hospital (DH) Longleng, the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has urged the state government to immediately intervene and take prompt action to address the issue within 15 days.
PSC through its media cell stated that it had expressed its grievances to the department several times through proper channel. However, PSC said there was no positive response so far.
PSC reminded that the health department that a few doctors and staff were struggling to handle the current situation at DH Longleng. It stated that there were only three doctors available while four doctors (medical officers) were on study leave and four lab technicians were performing their duty.
PSC stated that lack of sufficient doctors and staff has had a negative impact on the productivity and efficiency of district hospital affecting the patients and general public as a whole.
PSC said that the existing staff trying to manage was no longer sustainable as district hospital Longleng was the lone hospital in the district where all the patients were to be accommodated.
It pointed out that there were some staff who needed to be appointed at the earliest and the doctors to be available sufficiently. PSC has also requested the health and family minister to intervene and authorise the appointment at the earliest.
