Showuba Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy concludes

The valedictory programme of the Showuba Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy (2nd Edition, Shamator District Volleyball Tournament), organized by the Shamator District Volleyball Association (SDVA), marked the successful conclusion of three days of spirited competition at the Public Ground, Shamator on April 9.
The closing ceremony was graced by the, general secretary of the Nagaland Football Association, Benie M. Lamthiu, MLA as the special guest and represented by president of Pathso Public Organisation, P. Pokoi. Addressing the gathering, the special guest highlighted the transformative role of sports in shaping youth and society. He emphasized that volleyball fosters discipline, responsibility, and community bonding.
Suresh Shinde, Superintendent of Police, Shamator, also spoke on the occasion, drawing an analogy between volleyball and life, stressing the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and resilience both on and off the court.
In his welcome address, president of SDVA, K. Yaksokiu Yimchunger, expressed gratitude to the special guest, sponsors, participating teams, officials and supporters for their contributions to the tournament’s success.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the district, showcasing remarkable talent and sportsmanship. In the final match, Huhtangrü Village emerged as champion, while Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü secured the runner-up position. In the Individual Awards, Player of the Tournament was bagged by Kirito (Jersey No. 6), Huhtangrü Village; Best Spiker by Yantsuba (Jersey No. 11), Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü; Best Setter by Dungtikhum (Jersey No. 8), Sunny Young Club Tuensang; and Best Back by Lato, Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by general secretary SDVA, Lato, followed by prize distribution by team manager SDVA, Amongba Janger and a benediction.
