Guwahati, Sep 14 (PTI): The Congress on Monday named former MLA Sibamoni Bora as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam.
The by-election is scheduled for October 6, and counting of votes will take place on October 9.
“Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of Sibamoni Bora, ex-MLA, as party candidate to contest the ensuing by-election to the Lok Sabha from Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency of Assam,” AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said in a statement.
Bora was an MLA from the Batadrava legislative seat in Nagaon from 2021 to 2026.
The bypoll to the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency was necessitated, as the then Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the party to join the BJP in March before the assembly elections in Assam.
He later won from the Dispur assembly constituency and became an MLA.
