Siikriinye Mini Hornbill festival to be held in Phek

The state government, in association with Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO), is all set to hold the Siikriinye Mini Hornbill Festival at Phek town from January 15 to 17.

A press release from Siikriinye Mini Hornbill festival media committee stated that Siikriinye is the premier festival of the Chakhesang-Nagas and the state government has branded Phek district as “the land of tradition.”

The three-day festival will be marked by Naga wrestling, traditional fire making, cotton spinning & grass raincoat braiding, earthen pot making, and nettle shawl weaving competitions, and also feature bamboo stilt races, a bamboo pushing game, exhibition stalls, adventure and outdoor activities at Tizu river, grass pelting, bamboo pole climbing, spot jump, log cutting, cock fight, indigenous tune competition, hollering competition, tug of war, traditional cart race, top fight, talent nite etc.

Apart from the Chakhesang community, Pochury Cultural Troupe, Kivikhu Village Cultural Troupe and Team Metamorphosis Wokha will also give special presentations during the festival. A Mini Marathon (for under 15 girls) will also be held during the festival under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Further, a signature campaign propagating “Say no to Plastic” will be launched under Swachh Bharat on the theme “Towards greener Phek district.” A Siikriinye Half Marathon under the SVEEP campaign will also be a part of the festival.
