Silent procession in Kiphire over shifting of JNV

To protest against the shifting of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Kiphire to other place, the parents of JNV Kiphire students and the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) took out a silent procession at Kiphire on Saturday.
The parents submitted a memorandum to the commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samati, through deputy commissioner (DC) Kiphire. In the memorandum, the parents expressed disheartenment that such decision was taken without any concern for students whose parents were from underprivileged section of the society and from one of the remotest places even by the state’s standard.
The parents appealed to the authority to take up the matter in all earnest and revoke the decision to shift the JNV Kiphire campus. JNV Kiphire was established in the year 2006.
Addressing the participants after the procession, USSC executive chairman Justin Khatomong T. Sangtam expressed dismay at the move of the JNV authority to shit the school to Phek. He said the authority has failed to uphold its motto “social justice to rural talents” and its aims and objectives “to foster national integration among students through a policy of migration”.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Selitong termed as “totally baseless and unrealistic” the purported statement made by the principal JNV Kiphire. Selitong also read out the memorandum.
In his short speech, Private Schools Association Kiphire president Sebastan also expressed dismay over the shifting of the lone central institute in the district and said that the private schools had been cooperating with the JNV authority since its inception.
Further, he said that the shifting of the institution has made JNV students’ career stagnant.
In a press release, USSC general secretary Achumba Thonger said the conference has demand immediate cancellation of the shifting order of JNV Kiphire to Phek. It also appealed to the responsible authority to respond before the celebration of Independence Day. USSC said it would organize black arm band protest while observing Independence Day.
