Similarities between 2018 and 2023

There are similarities between the election in 2018 and present 2023 election as polling will be held on the same date- February 27. As in 2018, this time too, election will be held only in 59 out of 60 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland.
In 2018 there was no election in Northern Angami II constituency as only incumbent MLA Neiphiu Rio was nominated and was therefore declared elected unopposed. This time, sitting BJP legislator Kazheto Kinimi has been declared elected unopposed from Akuluto constituency, after his only opponent from the Congress N. Khekashe Sumi withdrew his candidature on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on February 10.
After one candidate was declared elected uncontested, a total of 13,07,651 voters will elect 59 out of a total of 183 candidates in fray including four women candidates spread over 16 districts. There are 13,17,632 electorate in the state, out of which 6,61,489 are males and 6,56,143 females.
In 2018 there were 196 candidates in 59 assembly seats while this time there are 183 candidates in 59 assembly seats.
Earlier, 200 nominations, out of 225, were found valid after scrutiny on February 8, 2023. However, 16 candidates withdrew their nominations on the last day of withdrawal on February 10, 2023.
