Singtra valley declared plastic-free zone

Singtra valley at Seyochung village has been declared as plastic-free zone. The announcement was made by Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU), Longtili C Sangtam at the cleanliness drive conducted in collaboration with the Government High School Seyochung Village at Singtra Valley on April 16.

At the cleanliness drive, school students collected plastic and other waste materials from the valley, which were disposed at a designated site. Meanwhile, Longtili C Sangtam thanked the students and school authorities for their support and participation. He also delivered a brief awareness speech on the harmful effects of plastic on the environment.

He encouraged the use of eco-friendly alternatives like cloth or jute bags, paper straws, and reusable containers and bottles.

To support the initiative, the union will be installing separate bins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, promote composting of organic waste, and display posters encouraging plastic-free alternatives. The union also requested all visitors to cooperate in maintaining Singtra Valley clean and plastic-free.
