NEW DELHI, MAY 31 (IANS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has commenced the enumeration phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-III in Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) beginning house-to-house visits to update electoral rolls.
According to the ECI, the enumeration phase began on May 30. During the exercise, BLOs will distribute, collect and verify Enumeration Forms from existing electors. Voters may also submit the forms online.
The Commission stated that all eligible electors whose Enumeration Forms are received by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on or before June 28, 2026, will be included in the draft electoral rolls. Those unable to submit forms by the deadline may apply through Form-6 along with the prescribed declaration during the claims and objections period.
To ensure maximum coverage, BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits and carry blank Form-6 and declaration forms to facilitate enrolment of new eligible voters.
The ECI has also allowed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties to collect up to 50 forms per day from the public and submit them to BLOs before publication of the draft rolls. Political parties have been encouraged to appoint additional BLAs to assist in the revision process.
The Commission said the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral roll while preventing inclusion of ineligible persons.
In Mizoram, the exercise covers 8.75 lakh electors with the support of 1,353 BLOs and 3,430 BLAs. Sikkim has 4.71 lakh electors, 572 BLOs and 681 BLAs, while Manipur has 20.92 lakh electors, 2,996 BLOs and 5,003 BLAs.
The ECI has urged voters in the three states to cooperate with election officials during the house-to-house verification process.
