Manipur police arrested 10 members of armed and radical groups, comprising six members of Arambai Tenggol and four cadres of the proscribed armed groups, the police said in its daily law and order update issued late on Tuesday night.
All the arrests were made in Bishnupur district on Tuesday, it said.
The police claimed the six arrested members of Arambai Tenggol were involved in physical assault on officers and personnel of the state police during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9 last.
Demanding immediate unconditional release of one of its leaders arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Imphal, the Arambai Tenggol had imposed a 10-day bandh which was later shortened to 48 hours in view of the increasing violence in the name of the strike.
The arrested AT members were Laishram Sanahal Singh (26), Laishram Rishikanta Singh (20), Laishram Premchand (18), Kangabam Nongdamba Singh (23), Sarangthem Rabichandra @ Rabi (28) and Yumnam Jaswant Singh (22).
Meanwhile, in the ongoing intelligence-based crackdown against extortion and criminal activities in the state, the police and security forces nabbed four alleged cadres of a faction of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), a proscribed armed outfit in the last 48 hours. The police and security forces have been carrying out intelligence-based operations extensively to nab those involved in extortion and criminal activities in the state to curb, particularly, rampant extortion activities.
In one of the operations in Bishnupur district, the police arrested two active cadres of PWG faction of KCP) from Utlou area under Nambol police station on Tuesday.
“The duo was raising funds for the banned outfit by extorting money from the general public and businessmen in the Nambol area” police said.
The arrested cadres were identified as Laitonjam Ramakanta Meitei (34) and Thongam Herojit Singh (38). Laitonjam Ramakanta Meitei, a self-styled section commander of KCP(PWG).
The police claimed that more than 15 cadres were working under him for the group. “Efforts to arrest the remaining cadres are underway,” police added. Another active cadre of the same outfit was also arrested from Moirang Okshongbung in Bishnupur district.
Identified as Thoudam Santosh Singh (23), the arrested cadre had collected large amounts of extortion money from schools and colleges located in Thoubal district.
One more active cadre of the same faction was arrested by the security forces from North AOC area of Imphal on the same day.
The police alleged he was involved in extortion and threatening of the general public, brick field owners and government employees. The cadre was identified as Potshangbam Jeet Meetei @ Norjit (55) of Khagempalli Panthak of Imphal West district.
On the other hand, security forces continued to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.
During one such operation, a cache of arms and ammunition including 12 different types of guns were recovered from a stretch between Boljang and Pholjang villages under New Keithelmanbi police station of Kangpokpi district on Tuesday.

Six improvised mortars, one hand-grenade, four hand-grenade detonators, two hand-grenade arming rings, three rubber bullets, 10 5.56mm INSAS live rounds., two tube launchers, one 2” mortar HE shell, 30 7.62mm blank rounds, one 5.56mm INSAS rifle magazine, one 5.56mm INSAS LMG magazine and one hand held radio set with charger were also included among the recovery items, the police added,
