Department of Social Work, St. Joseph University conducted a rural camp from July 12 to 19, 2025 for students of BSW III Semester and MA Rural Development III Semester at Benreu Tourist Village in Peren district and Mezoma Village in Kohima district.
A total of 49 students participated, guided by faculty members Dr. Kevitsalie Jerome, Dr. Oinam Anjali, Dr. Janet Gonmei and Mr. Kezhakhotuo Chalieu. The camp focused on practical learning through household surveys, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), and skill-building activities.
Key activities included door-to-door surveys on demographic, educational and income data, PRA exercises like social mapping and resource inventory, and skill development sessions on mushroom cultivation and paper bag making. Students also conducted a tree plantation and community cleanliness drive.
The camp encouraged student-community interaction and offered villagers new livelihood skills. The department thanked village leaders and the university management for their support in making the camp a success.
