SJU hosts seminar on language, literature

DIMAPUR

Department of English, St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, organized its 3rd national seminar on “Emerging Paradigms in Language, Literature & Culture” on October 16 and 17 at the university auditorium and seminar hall.
The two-day event brought together scholars, academicians, and students to explore evolving trends in language, literary studies, and cultural discourse. Day one featured a lecture by Dr. Vasanthan, associate professor, Nagaland University, on “A Multi-dimensional Research Vision for English Language Teaching and Literary Studies.” Paper presentations followed in parallel sessions moderated by Dr. Moameren Pongen and Dr. Imkumnaro Walling, concluding with an interactive Q&A.
Day two began with an invocation by Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Arockiam Nathan and a welcome address by Limhathung A. Lotha. Dr. Ph. Jayalaxmi, Assistant Professor, Manipur University, delivered a lecture on “Politics of Home and Belongingness in the Northeast Writing,” followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Tayenjam Rajesh Singh. The second session included paper presentations moderated by Dr. Naorem Nishikanda Singh, with active participation from students and scholars. The valedictory session, hosted by Dr. Temjentula Pongener, began with an invocation by Sr. Cicilia Ngaineiting Khongsai. Dr. V. T. Vasagan, Dean of Social Sciences and Management, delivered the valedictory note, followed by certificate distribution. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ajith J. and N. Esther Ezung, Assistant Professors, Department of English.
The inaugural session, hosted by Dr. Alemmenla Walling, began with the national anthem and invocation by Rev. Sr. Dr. Thianes Mary. Dr. Thokchom Sunanda Devi delivered the welcome address, followed by Dr. Betina Vashi’s introduction of the seminar theme. The Abstract Volume was released, accompanied by a folk dance by UG 3rd Semester students and a university video screening. Dr. A. Robert Xavier delivered the Presidential Address, followed by a folk song by UG 5th Semester. The keynote address was presented by Prof. Mousumi Guha Banerjee, and the session concluded with the University Anthem and a vote of thanks by Vikholo Rosii.
