KOHIMA, OCT 11 (NPN): Multi-level parking facilities in Kohima, developed under the Smart City project, are providing parking spaces while also supporting local entrepreneurs and generating employment opportunities through shops and other commercial services.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, manager of PR Hill Multi-Level Car Parking, Novizo Dzune, said the property was owned by Smart City and managed by the Central Plaza Management Board.
He said the building was designed not only for parking but also housed a shopping mall, food court and space for small events, with the aim of promoting local entrepreneurs and providing business opportunities.
According to Dzune, the facility had four clinics and could accommodate approximately 150 vehicles, with each floor having a capacity of around 50 vehicles. It also provided employment to 30 local people and housed around 78 shops operated by local entrepreneurs.
He said monthly parking was available for Rs. 2,000, while overnight parking cost Rs. 100. The venue could also be rented for events at Rs. 15,000 per day.
Dzune said the building had hygienic pay-and-use toilets and a lift for public convenience. CCTV cameras had been installed, while security personnel remained on duty round the clock.
Expressing hope that more such buildings would be developed, he said they could generate additional employment opportunities for local people.
Meanwhile, manager of the Multi-Level Car Parking facility at New NST, Viketouzo Belho, said the facility was being operated on a 15-year lease and had completed three years of operation. Developed under the Smart City project, the five-storey building had its ground floor occupied by the Nagaland State Transport (NST).
Belho said the facility could accommodate around 100 vehicles, with each floor having a capacity of approximately 20 vehicles. It employed 12 staff members who were paid monthly.
He said monthly parking was available for Rs. 2,000, with around 20 to 25 vehicles using the facility under the arrangement. However, he noted that some vehicle owners had left without paying parking fees. Overnight parking was available at Rs. 200.
Belho said the building had a lift for public use, but it was currently out of service due to a technical problem.
He added that security personnel were deployed during the day and night to ensure the safety of parked vehicles. Vehicles were allowed to leave the premises only after drivers presented their parking receipts.
