Sakus Mission College (SMC) celebrated its 25 years jubilee at the college auditorium, SMC, Landmark Colony, Dimapur on June 1.
Speaking as the guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Imchayanger stated that 25th year celebration of SMC, was the 60th year of the inception of higher education in the state, adding that jubilee was a time for looking back and giving thanks to the Almighty God for His goodness and a time of looking forward with clearer vision for greater achievement.
He lamented that most in this generation seek academic excellence to qualify for desired placement, where they try to attain academic achievement higher than others in midst of competition and comparison, forgetting demands of people. He stated that in a corrupt society, any pursuit of excellence may not be fruitful but encouraged that education should be aimed at changing the world from bad to good and good to better.
He questioned if there was any patriotic and nationalistic elements in education system and whether educated youths were conformed to the established social norms and requirements.
He stated that many educated youths, had knowledge, but without any understanding. He said “everyone cannot be the best, but everyone can be their own best. Only the best should not get placements, but everyone, in its own best should get placement.”
Earlier, jubilee greetings were delivered by Lakhuni Seno, chairman, Landmark Colony, alumni member, parents, president, Ao Students Union, Moayanger, and representative from ANSCU.
Asst. professor, Tiajungla chaired the programme while principal, SMC, Amenla Aier delivered the welcome note. BA 5th semester students, Takalong and friends presented a male voice, while SMC choir performed a melodious number.
Alumnus, Kinito also performed a special number. Invocation and scripture reading was offered by chaplain, SMC, Amenla Aier and word of thanks delivered by academic dean, SMC, Moatemsu Longkumer.
