SML 3: Kohima Legends crowned champions

Kohima Legends emerged champions of the third edition of the Senior Masters League (SML) after registering a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over defending champions Esa Warriors in the final at Nagaland Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Batting first, Esa Warriors, who were champions of the first and second editions of the SML, were bowled out for 124 in 19.1 overs. Kohima Legends made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 13 overs without losing a wicket to seal an emphatic win. Theja Yhome of Kohima Legends was later adjudged as Man of the Match.
In his address as the special guest at the closing ceremony, AIGP (PROV), Limawati Imchem, who is also a member of the Kohima Old Boys, expressed happiness over the successful organization of the league and lauded the SML organizing committee and governing body for providing valuable platform for veteran cricketers.
He described the tournament as an excellent space for players to share ideas and discuss cricket-related matters in the state, and encouraged the organizers to continue their good work. He also congratulated all participating teams.
Delivering the tournament report, member organizing committee, CML, Vinoto Awomi, stated that the tournament commenced on November 18, 2025, featuring six teams, Kohima Legends, Kohima Old Boys, Lhomithi Sporting Club, Nzon Cricket Club, Esa Warriors, and Chümou Veterans. A total of 34 matches were played during the league.
The champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up were awarded Rs 30,000.
In the Individual award category, Vikato of Kohima Legends was awarded the (Best Batsman)who secured 363 runs throughout the tournament, Rakesh Paul of Esa Warriors bagged the “Best Bowler” for securing 25 wickets, while Best Wicket Keeper was adjudged to Tohoto Chisho of Lhomithi Sporting Club, and Man of the Tournament was bagged by Rakesh Paul of Esa Warriors.
Earlier, the closing ceremony programme was chaired by governing body member, SML, Imtisungba Aier, and invocation by pastor, Lotha Baptist Church, Rev Yilobemo Lotha.
