Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo highlighted the members of Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on the newly launched social health camp to “assess co-morbid groups” during the monthly DPDB meeting Tuesday in the conference hall of the DPDB Kohima.
She said the health camp was a new initiative for Kohima district to protect the identified co-morbid group who would be given free medication and health strengthening through National Urban Health Mission.
According to a DIPR report, Dr. Vezokholu said, “target approach to those with unknown status of hypertension and diabetes while known statuses are encouraged to adhere to the treatment.”
She said targeted groups were 30 years and above, pregnant women and those less than 30 years but have a family history. In this connection, the CMO requested the members to pass on the message in respective areas to protect co-morbid group to avoid Covid morbidity and mortality in the district.
The CMO informed that to assess the co-morbid groups in the areas, a format was brought out for mapping of the co-morbid disease prevalence in the community, where ten out of 19 wards have submitted.
Dr. Vezokholu informed that the social health camp began on March 15 at Keziekie Panchayat Hall; Ura Academy, Mission Compound; New Market Panchayat Hall and Lower Chandmari – waiting shed, taxi junction. She said the camp would be held every Tuesday and Thursday in urban colonies under the district.
She said the initiative was taken during a meeting with the All Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) on January 15 to “protect the co-morbid group of people from COVID death” as most of the deaths during the pandemic were of co-morbid cases who were unaware of their health status.
Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman DPDB, Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie thanked and appreciated the medical department and CMO and her team for taking the initiative at the district level and urged the people to make use of the facilities at their doorsteps.
He also pointed out the importance of health status, precautionary measures and COVID protocols, which still need to be taken care of as the COVID situation was not over yet.
Reviewing the last meeting minutes on registration of societies, the DC requested the officers involved in the screening process to give factual reports while verifying the documents for the genuine benefit of the society.
Based on the verification report given by the screening committee, the meeting also decided to recommend the two societies Entrepreneurship & Livelihood Old NST and North East Leaders Connect, Khroliezou Colony, L. Khel to the government for further necessary action.
