SON NHAK graduation programme

School of Nursing (SON) Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) graduation cum 14th Lt. Mrs Ketsovole Kire award ceremony was held here at DBT conference hall, Wednesday.
Exhorting the new graduates, director health and family welfare, Dr. L Watikala urged the nurses to work with dedication, love, devotion and conviction.
 She also asked the nurses to make the best use of the facilities available and to maintain privacy and confidentiality of patients.
Cautioning the nurses of working in various hospitals/departments simultaneously, Dr. Watikala informed that some nurses who were appointed in both Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) and National Rural Health Mission (NHM) and was also found working “fulltime” in public hospitals were identified and terminated.
Also speaking in the programme, SON NHAK principal Watimongla lamented that the SON NHAK (est. 1949) despite being the first nursing school in the state still lacks proper infrastructure facilities and equipments.
Considering the present condition of the institution, the principal said the school authority was apprehensive of being de-recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) at any point of time. 
Further, Watimongla said Lt. Mrs Ketsovole Kire award was given to the topper amongst two nursing schools- SON NHAK and Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital Mokokchung since 2002.  However, from 2017 she said the award would be a competition between three SONs including SON Dimapur.
She also informed that this year 26 students graduated successfully on completion of three and half-year course. Watimongla also informed that from 2016 onwards the course would be reduced to three years.
The principal then urged the graduating nurses to keep in mind the ethics of nursing profession and to pursue further studies.
Managing Director NHAK, Dr. Vikeyie Losou also urged the nurses to keep abreast with medical advances and to make good use of their knowledge.   
Giving away the 14th Lt. Mrs Ketsovole Kire award to Neipukhrieno Kiso, a family member informed that Lt. Mrs Ketsovole Kire studied Nursing at Jorhat and worked as a nurse for 20 years at NHAK and later took a voluntary retirement.
Neipukhrieno Kiso is a graduate from SON NHAK and secured 74.42%. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 with citation.
Certificates to SON NHAK graduates 2016 were handed over by joint director nursing directorate of Health and family welfare, Ch. Henia.
The gathering was enthralled through welcome song by 3rd year GNM students and duet by Khumtila and Meribeni (PTS). Invocation was pronounced by Pastor Khedi Baptist Church, Rev. Pelhousehu while vote of thanks was delivered by outgoing student, Odonglemla. 
The programme was chaired by Nursing tutor SON NHAK, M Margaret.
