Langpangkong range student’s general conference-cum-sports meet got underway to an impressive start on January 12 when parliamentary secretary Industries T.Amenba Yaden graced the opening session.
The four-day (Jan.12-15) Langpangkong Students Conference –cum-sports meet is being held at Tuli under the theme ‘Resilient Foundation’ where more than 2000 student delegates from 19 villages under Langpangkong range are participating.
On January 13, union minister of state(independent charge) of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal representing Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency(Assam) graced the occasion as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest reiterated that sports was a way of life, apart from being just for fun as it was also a way of bringing everyone together towards a common goal.
He reiterated that the level of union in such occasions must be respected and sports be used as a channel to bring a unanimous approach towards national pride and loyalty.
He mentioned, that youth from the age of 15-29 comprise of 27.5% of the country’s population and also the future of the nation. In this regard, Sonowal maintained, that the challenge before the nation was to impart life skills that come in handy throughout the journey of life. The minister said there was a need for the nation to develop and empower its huge young population as productive work force .
Further he said that youths of the North East region have a great responsibility on their shoulder in the process of nation building and for which the government of India was keen on skill development as well as personality development for the youth of the nation.
Sonowal also highlighted various flagship programs of the Prime Minster of India such as Digital India, Skill India and Make in India which could bring a turnaround in the history of India.
He also highlighted the new scheme launched by the youth affairs and sports ministry in December 2014 – the National Young Leaders Program (NYLP). The minster explained that the scheme was devised in tune with promises made to the people. The purpose and objectives of this scheme is to develop leadership qualities in the youth to realize their full potential to motivate youth to strive for excellence in their respective fields, to bring them to the forefront of development process and to harness the immense youth energy for nation building.
He also called upon the student delegates to work together and strive to build a strong nation which is free from illiteracy, poverty, unemployment and other social evils. He concluded with a quote from Swami Vivekananda “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”.
Upon his arrival at the venue, the chief guest also unfurled the LKM flag before being led to the dais. The program was chaired by former NSF President Tongpang Ozukumwhile Taliyanger Jamir, LKM president gave the presidential address. After the inaugural service, the LKM sports meet began.
