A press release issued by the organising committee stated that Ghokuto village was selected to celebrate as the location was ideally located with immense tourism potential, which could be seen by all citizens in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland district.
Citing the example of Shillong Peak, which gives a majestic view of the city and has become a major tourist attraction in Meghalaya, the committee said Ghokuto village peak too had the potential of becoming a view point of all the three districts in the future along with its breath-taking scenic beauty. This would attract tour operators/entrepreneurs and could become an eco/agro tourism hotspot, which would improve economy of the village and adjoining areas with increased footfall of tourists, it added.
The committee said the sound and light extravaganza would begin at 7 pm so that all citizens could enjoy and celebrate the festive season.
Noting that the village was also famous for Raja King chilly cultivation, which was a major source of village economy, the committee recalled that the State government had awarded the head GB and village council certificate of commendation in recognition of their contribution to organic farming and achieving self-sustainability on Independence Day this year.
It urged the authorities concerned to improve the road in the area as road communication was critical in development.
Being a new district and its plain topography being its inherent strength that would aid infrastructure development, which could become a game changer, the committee called for both private and public sector investment in Niuland to help create job opportunities.
