The observance of Anti-Leprosy Day and the state launching programme for the year-long activities of the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness campaign was held on January 30 at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima by the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).
A press release by program assistant Khrieliebeinuo Rüpreo informed that the event aimed to raise awareness about leprosy, combat stigma and promote early detection and treatment.
The State Leprosy Officer Dr. Ruokuohelie Rutsa gave a PowerPoint presentation on overview of National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP). The event was graced by principal director DHFW, Dr. E. Motsuthung Pattonas the special guest while mission director, National Health Mission (NHM) DHFW, Dr. Akuo Sorhie was the guest of honour.
The programme was chaired by addl. director DoHFW, Dr. Avile Zao and invocation was offered by R.O. DoHFW, Thinuohelie Sachü. Phek: Along with the rest of the world, Phek National Leprosy Elimination Program (NLEP) observed National Anti-Leprosy Day and Sparsh Leprosy awareness campaign, under the theme “Unite, Act Eliminate” on January 30 at the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall in Phek.
The awareness campaign aimed to raise awareness of leprosy and highlight the challenges faced by those affected, and inspire collaborative efforts to eliminate the disease.
In his keynote address, DTO DTC Phek, Dr. Ebenezer Phesao, highlighted that the occasion was a reminder of the ongoing fight against leprosy, stressing the need to eliminate stigma and support affected individuals.
He urged participants to renew their commitment and advocate for policies protecting the rights of those impacted by leprosy. In his brief speech, EAC HQ Phek, Balong Phom, encouraged participants to become ambassadors in the fight against leprosy.
He emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment and stressed the need for unity and collaboration to achieve the goal.
Other highlights of the programme included – a song by Tune Up Academy Phek, performed by Anuri Nienu and Sakulu Lohe, followed by the reading of the Anti-Leprosy pledge, led by SDO (Civil) HQ Phek, Saratho Katiry.
Earlier, the program was chaired by DCM NHM, Azenuo Mere, invocation by Y/Director PBC 5th NAP BN Phek, Kuvesa Nyekha, welcome address by DPO DAPCU, Kuduvo Kezo and vote of thanks by Sr. PMS (NLEP), Dihuto.
