SPCA Tuensang advisory against shoot-at-sight order of animals

Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tuensang in concurrence with the DC Tuensang order issued on May 23, has stated that shooting at sight of dogs/animals is illegal and in contravention to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. A press release from DC and chairman of SPCA informed that shooting of dogs or killing of pets and animals amounted to cruelty to animals which is punishable under Section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code.  It is therefore impressed upon all concerned under Tuensang district that, any village authority/ward authority/individuals or groups not to resort to shoot at sight of dogs/animals. Further, at this time of COVID-19 pandemic, it has to be noted that there is no record of the COVID-19 being transmitted by pets or dogs to human beings.
