DIMAPUR, JUL 20 (NPN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) and LJP (Ram Vilas) have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic landslides in Mon district that claimed lives and caused extensive damage to homes, livelihoods and public infrastructure.
Speaker: In a condolence message, NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
He prayed that the departed souls rest in eternal peace and that the bereaved families be granted strength and solace during this difficult time.
Appealing to citizens to remain vigilant amid the continuing adverse weather, he urged the public to strictly follow official advisories and extend all possible support to affected communities.
The Speaker also appreciated the district administration, disaster response agencies, security forces, medical teams and volunteers for their tireless rescue and relief efforts, and called on people to stand together in prayer and solidarity with the affected families.
ENSF: The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and destruction of property caused by the incessant rain and the ensuing disaster that struck several parts of Mon district on Sunday.
In a statement, ENSF conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls and for strength and comfort for those affected.
The federation appreciated the efforts of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration, organisations and individuals involved in the search, rescue and relief operations in Tizit, Naginimora and Mon town.
It also urged the state government and district administration to accord top priority to the early restoration of road connectivity, electricity, telecommunications and other essential public infrastructure damaged by the disaster.
Expressing concern over the long-standing developmental disparity in the eastern region, ENSF said the present calamity should not further hinder the region’s developmental aspirations. It stressed that the limited infrastructure and public assets in the region were vital lifelines and should be restored immediately while ensuring long-term resilience.
The federation further appealed to the government to expedite financial and material assistance to bereaved families and provide compensation for damaged property and livestock. It also called for transparency, equity and accountability in the relief and rehabilitation process to ensure that no affected individual was neglected or discriminated against.
LJP (Ram Vilas): Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, wished a speedy recovery to the injured and prayed for the safe rescue of those still missing.
LJP (RV) national secretary Richard Humtsoe appealed to the Nagaland government, State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and all concerned departments to intensify search and rescue operations, provide immediate relief, including food, drinking water, temporary shelter, medicines and other essential supplies, and extend adequate ex gratia compensation and financial assistance to the families of the deceased, injured and displaced.
It also urged the authorities to restore damaged roads, bridges, electricity, communication networks and other essential services at the earliest, besides undertaking a comprehensive assessment of the damage and implementing long-term landslide mitigation measures.
The party further appealed to the Government of India, particularly Home Ministry and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), to extend financial, technical and disaster response assistance to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas.
It also appealed to churches, civil society organisations, student bodies, youth organisations, business communities and the public to extend all possible assistance to the affected families.
