A special prayer gathering hosted under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope” was held at Chq. Hebron, bringing together a diverse and faithful assembly in pursuit of spiritual reflection and national solidarity.
The event was jointly organized on July 30 by the Archdiocese of Kohima and Imphal, with support from the Council of Naga Churches (CNC).
In a press release, NSCN/GPRN through its MIP informed that more than 50 Naga priests and over 20 Naga nuns representing various dioceses and parishes across Nagaland and Manipur participated in the gathering, which also drew approximately 900 delegates from Catholic organizations in both states.
The central ceremony, Prayer for the Nation, was conducted as a solemn Holy Eucharistic celebration led by Rev. Dr. Fr. Godfrey Vilasal Thapo.
During the event, Rev. Fr. Kokto Kurien offered a thoughtful exegesis on the gathering’s theme, portraying the Naga political journey as a spiritual pilgrimage toward peace, justice, truth and reconciliation.
“The Catholic Church honors this journey,” he affirmed, emphasizing the community’s deep yearning for dignity and a harmonious future.
The homily was jointly delivered by Rev. Dr. Fr. George Rino and Rev. Fr. Robert Somi, who stressed the need for spiritual growth and the value of sacrifice in building a better society anchored in faith.
Their message resonated with the theme of unity, encouraging the community to remain steadfast and prayerful during critical times.
In a touching moment, all attending priests offered invocation prayers and blessings upon the leadership and members of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN). Uplifting hymns by the PNCM Catechists and the Poumai Naga Catholic Women added depth and grace to the occasion.
The gathering concluded with words of appreciation from Rev. Fr. Jacob Chapao and the Dy. Ato Kilonser of GPRN, marking the event as a meaningful milestone in both spiritual and civic life.
