Speedy disposal of fake encounter case demanded

A group of people Thursday stormed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Imphal demanding fair and speedy disposal of the infamous Khwairamband Keithel ‘fake’ encounter case of July 23, 2009.
The demonstrators also demanded justice to the multi-crore Imphal Airport drug seizure case in which trial is currently underway in the court after CBI submitted its charge-sheet against incumbent chief minister O Ibobi’s nephew O Henry and three others.
CBI had re-opened the infamous 2009 broad daylight fake encounter case for a fresh investigation following an order of the Imphal West district and session judge on Wednesday.
The group of people displayed various slogans like “Justice delay is justice denied”, , “drug dealers and killers cannot govern the state”, “produce the killers of Sanjit and Rabina, and record the judicial confession of Herojit”, “end the indigenous bloodshed”,” justice for fake encounter victims”, etc while demonstrating in front of the CBI Anti-Corruption branch office in Imphal’s Lamphelpat.
Four leaders of the demonstrators later met the additional SP L Hangsing before dispersing.
Dr Y Dhakeshor, who led the four representatives, said that they have pressed the additional SP to deliver justice to the infamous July 23, 2009 fake encounter victims.
The additional SP informed them that the agency has initiated a fresh investigation into the case, Dhakeshor claimed.
Meanwhile, Manipur BJP has also demanded speedy disposal of fake encounter cases to deliver justice to the people of the state while welcoming the recent move of the CBI to reopen Khwairamband Bazaar fake encounter and airport drug seizure cases.
Hinting political involvement in the cases, state BJP spokesperson and former minister Nongthongbam Biren told the media in a news conference that delay in the trials of the long pending cases has violated the rights of the people.
“BJP welcomes the reopening of the Sanjeet and Rabina fake encounter case by the CBI after an appeal made by the mother of Sanjeet,” said Biren while reminding that the Supreme Court has declared 1528 fake encounter cases which occurred behind the armed forces special powers act.
Biren while comparing the rising number of drug abuse in Manipur with Punjab alleged that “it has now an open secret that many high profile individuals and politicians are involved in importing drugs into the north eastern state”.
He demanded that the culprits involved in importing drugs should be booked in order to save the young generation while seeking an independent inquiry into those involved in such cases.
The BJP leader further demanded the state government to make public the progress of judicial enquiry on the dead of student Robinhood in police action against students carrying out rally demanding implementation of ILPS (Inner Line Permit System) in 2015.
