The 31st edition of Spero Meliora 2025, under the theme “Break the Ice and Steal a March,” was held at the Kohima Village Council Hall on Saturday.
The annual literary and cultural event is jointly organized by the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) and Dolphin Club, featuring competitions among the four Khels of Kohima Village—Lhisemia, Tsütuonuomia, Pfuchatsumia, and Dapfhütsumia.
Gracing the occasion as special guest, Chief Conservator of Forests, Department of Forests & Climate Change, Chhattisgarh, Dr. Kenei Miachieo, lauded the organizers for providing a platform where students could groom themselves for larger stages. He said such events help identify and nurture talent, and contribute meaningfully to personal growth and community development.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Miachieo remarked that every student present was already a winner, having been selected from among the best in their respective clans. He encouraged them to embrace life with courage and strategy, likening it to a game where not everyone becomes a pro, but everyone has a shot.
He shared three key strategies for developing fearlessness: Farming (Consistency & Smart Work): Like in gaming, consistent and smart effort is essential; Teaming Up: Seek advice and guidance without hesitation and Research: Continue exploring your field of interest and skill up early.
He further urged students to self-evaluate, identify weaknesses, and strive for improvement. Emphasizing that a good society begins at home, he called on youth to support one another and build a culture of mutual growth.
The event was attended by members of the Northern Angami Students’ Union and other student bodies from the Angami region. Dolphin Club president, Dzüvinguzo Mepfhüo, delivered the welcome address, while Mhaphruonuo Rutsa presented a special number. Invocation was offered by Rev. Dr. Ruokuovilie Sachü of Khedi Baptist Church, Kohima. Petevilie Keyho and Thejasenuo Kire compered the programme.
Spero Meliora features a wide range of competitions including cultural songs, solo performances, painting, debate, elocution, fine arts, instrumental music, extempore, and spelling bee, aimed at promoting literary and artistic excellence among youth.
