SRSU raises concern over schools’ performances during its education tour

Concluding its four-day educational tour from September 7 to 11 across Suruhuto area, Suruhuto Range Students Union (SRSU) revealed both commendable achievements and areas of concern in government schools.

A press release issued by SRSU president, Hipito Achumi and general secretary Toina Chophy stated that the tour showcased several schools performing exceptionally well under diligent authorities, however, it also raised concerns about the underperformance of specific institutions in certain villages.

During the tour to government schools, SRSU has identified critical areas for improvement:
NECTAR (The Nagaland Education Project): SRSU observed that while many institutions are smoothly implementing this scheme, some have failed to qualify for the second instalment and strongly condemned the discrepancy.

The union stated that it is committed to recognizing excellence in education by honouring the three best teachers and best-performing institutions in the upcoming biennial conference which is to be held during the first week of January, 2024 at Phuye new village.

It informed that these accolades will be distributed across Government Primary Schools (GPS), Government Middle Schools (GMS), and Government High Schools (GHS) to promote and ensure the delivery of quality education.

SRSU pointed out that the glaring issue it encountered during the tour was the alarming teacher shortage in many schools. They urgently appealed to local authorities and village representatives to rectify this issue, emphasizing the critical role of government institutions in providing quality education. SRSU has called upon various stakeholders, including NGOs, SMC chairpersons and teacher IC, to actively champion the cause of education in the region.
