The first national level technical symposium of St. Joseph University (SJU) and inauguration of IEI Students’ Chapter were organised by the department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution of Engineers (India) Student’s Chapter on April 5.
In a press release, SJU informed that while inaugurating the symposium, chief guest, Government Polytechnic, Seithekema C principal, Er. Zhapulhoulie Rupreo expressed gratitude to the SJU department of Civil Engineering.
He advised the students to take the event and make it a step towards mounting their journey of success.
The event was also graced by several dignitaries including chairman, IEI Nagaland state centre, D.A. Shishak as special guest.
The opening ceremony began with invocation by dean of administration-SJU, Rev. Sr. Dr. Arockia Mary, welcome address by Vitopu M Kinny and presidential address by vice-chancellor-SJU Dr, Gnanadurai.
The inauguration of IEI Students’ Chapter was declared by Dr. Gnanadurai.
Representative to the IEI, D.A. Shishak also attended the programme.
SJU informed that the Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers, established in 1920 with its headquarters located in Kolkata.
In his speech, D. A. Shishak talked about the important role of civil engineers in developing the world.
He urged upon the students to push for their dreams to build a better world.
Meanwhile, during closing ceremony, valedictory address was delivered by registrar-SJU, Dr. A. Anthonisan, who emphasised on the teaching and learning process.
The programme was followed by a prize distribution where prizes were given to winning teams and participants from each event.
Appreciation certificates were also handed to faculty members of the Civil Engineering department and head coordinators of the symposium.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by Imsurenla P. Longchar and benediction was said by Rev. Fr. L. Anish.
It may be mentioned that the IEI Students Chapter was established by SJU in Nagaland state with coordinator of IEI, E. Nainar. More than 120 participants from various colleges and universities including Polytechnic attended the symposium.
