Star Cement expands into sustainable construction

Star Cement Limited, a leading name in the cement industry, has launched Star AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) Blocks and Star Block Jointing Mortar, marking a major step toward sustainable and innovative construction solutions.
The inaugural dispatch took place at the company’s manufacturing facility in Sonapur, led by Chief Operating Officer Pradeep Purohit and Business Head Magan Agarwal.
These new products are part of Star Smart Building Solutions, an initiative aimed at diversifying beyond cement and offering high-quality, efficient, and eco-friendly materials for the construction sector. With this expansion, Star Cement is moving towards becoming a one-stop solution provider for builders and developers.
The Star AAC Blocks are produced at a state-of-the-art, fully automated plant, with a capacity of over 3 lakh cubic meters per year, making it the largest AAC plant in Northeast India. The automated process ensures the delivery of lightweight, durable, and eco-friendly blocks that meet modern construction demands. The Star Construction Chemicals range, including Star Block Jointing Mortar, is produced at a dry mix mortar plant in Sonapur, with an installed capacity of 1.72 lakh tonnes per year. The facility is among the largest of its kind in India, ensuring efficient packaging and delivery with advanced automation.
Industrialist Ghanshyam Das Dhanuka praised Star Cement’s commitment to innovation, emphasizing that these new products will strengthen structures while promoting sustainability. COO Pradeep Purohit expressed excitement about the launch, stating that Star Cement’s Sonapur facility positions it as a market leader in Northeast India, contributing to the region’s infrastructure growth. Looking ahead, Star Smart Building Solutions plans to introduce more value-added products, including tile adhesives, tile cleaners, grouts, ready-mix plaster, waterproofing compounds, wall putty, cover blocks, and flooring screed to offer a complete range of construction materials.
With this expansion, Star Cement reinforces its reputation as a trusted name in construction, focusing on high-performance, sustainable solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support infrastructure development in Northeast India and beyond.
