Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Longleng and Peren units conducted exposure tours for farmers to expand their experience and train them on modern methods of farming.
ATMA Longleng: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longleng organised a within state farmers training from March 26 to 28 at Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema and Molvim village respectively. Interstate exposure tour of farmers to Central MugaEri Research and Training Institute at Lahdoigarh, Jorhat district of Assam was organised by ATMA Longleng from March 28 to 31.
Altogether 12 progressive farmers from four different villages attended for both the within state and interstate exposure tour.
The farmers were trained on production technology of horticultural crops like strawberry, guava, banana, citrus as well as floriculture crops at CIH, Medziphema. Farmers were also taken to Molvom village on one of progressive farmer named Mangpi, Pineapple farm where farmer to farmer, on field training and interaction were conducted.
At Lahdoigarh Jorhat, farmers visited Central mugaeri research and training institute with the objective to popularise sericulture farming, increase the production of coccon, production of yarn by motorised spinning and to train the farmers in muga silk farming.
The farmers were also2 given classroom training by the Institute scientist on rearing of eri and muga, its management of disease, pests of eri host plants and silkworm.
ATMA Peren farmers’ exposure tour: Farmers of Peren district went on an interstate farmers exposure tour to Jorhat from April 2 to 6.
During the tour the farmers visited progressive farmer’s field and Assam Agriculture University (AAU) research plot where the farm technical staff demonstrated for the farmers, Air layering of litchi, Assam lemon, and Guava.
The scientist from AICRP on vegetables highlighted tomato seed extractions and also explained nursery preparation and cultivation of chilli, carrot, brinjal, etc.
Farmers were also trained on cultivation on bell pepper, nursery raising and ornamental plants cultivation of king chilly.
Mango tree banding with polythene, coconut plantation and multi storeyed, integrated farming were also shown to the farmers. They also learnt about hybrid papaya cultivation and its economics from the Farm Technical staff.
The farmers also visited the livestock farm where turkey, vanaraja, layers, piggery, rabbit, buffalo and duckery were being successfully maintained. The farmers were also taken to a tea garden and processing unit and off season field crops farms. The touring team was led by two deputy project directors.
