CALLS FOR Early, inclusive & honourable Naga Political Solution
The BJP state unit held an “Extended State Executive Meeting” at IMC Hall here on Tuesday. Addressing the meeting, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and cluster in-charge of Nagaland Sarbananda Sonowal articulated the party’s dedication to the region’s development, calling for making the BJP strong, popular, and credible among the people.
Highlighting the party’s stance on Northeast’s unique cultural heritage, he urged the party karyakartas to follow the principle of nation first, party second, and self last, adding that the primary duty was to serve the nation first. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as an ideal leader with conviction, dedication, and a clear vision for the country’s welfare.
Reflecting on the developmental changes under Modi’s leadership, Sonowal praised Modi’s efforts to develop the region.
“Without developing the Northeast, India cannot achieve progress. Modi has done so much for the region, making it known not only to the country but the entire world,” he said, citing the peace and progress in the region after Modi came to power.
Sonowal criticized the earlier UPA government for neglecting the region, alleging that the voices of the people here were never heard in Delhi.
He hoped that Nagaland would also play an important role in the development of the county.
Delivering the keynote address, BJP national secretary and prabhari in-charge of Nagaland and Meghalaya Anil K Antony heaped praise on Nagaland for being the first state in the Northeast where the party blossomed.
He also acknowledged the significant changes driven by Modi’s Act East policy, which saw more than Rs 6 lakh crore being invested in the region over the past decade.
He said that much of the changes witnessed in the state and region was due to the vision of Modi, asserting that the Northeast was currently growing at a higher pace than the rest of the country.
Dwelling on the recent Lok Sabha elections, he stated that despite misinformation and propaganda spread by the opposition, the NDA came back to power for a third consecutive term. He admitted that the results in Nagaland could have been better, adding that the party should take this as a lesson never to be complacent and remain united.
He called for unity and continuous effort to ensure party’s growth in the state, aligning with Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Delivering the presidential address, state BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi, who was appointed in September 25, 2023, reflected on his past 10-month period as the president, and expressed gratitude for the support from various party members.
After being elected as the president, Yepthomi conducted a tour across the state to meet and interact with district mandals.
He extended his warm welcome to Sonowal and Antony, expressing hope that their leadership would elevate BJP in Nagaland to greater heights.
Dwelling on the Lok Sabha election results, he said while the party did not set up candidate, alliance partner NDPP fielded a PDA consensus candidate, who unfortunately lost the elections.
He reminded the karyakartas that electoral politics culminated either in victory or defeat, and even though the alliance candidate lost, he thanked each and every one for working tirelessly for the ruling coalition during the election.
On the urban local body (ULB) elections, he mentioned that the BJP fielded 51 candidates, out of which 25 were elected (14 men and 11 women). He expressed pride in stating that 44% of the BJP councilors were women, adding that this was the vision of Modi, who is championing of nari shakti (women empowerment).
Dwelling on Modi’s development agenda, he claimed that the Prime Minister was leading the Viksit Bharat movement to make India a fully developed nation by year 2047, adding that his eight-pronged developmental model included peace, power generation, tourism, 5G connectivity, development and preservation of culture, natural farming, sports, and enhancement of potential, and also the HIRA (highways, internet, railways and airways) model.
Referring to the peace initiatives, Yepthomi cited the Framework Agreement signed with the NSCN (IM) and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups, while appealing for an early and honorable solution to the long-standing Naga political Issue.
He called on the karyakartas to renew their commitment to serving the people and advancing the party’s ideals, stressing unity and cohesiveness to achieve unprecedented heights. He hoped that the BJP would one day have 60 members in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Tourism and Higher Education minister Temjen Imna Along, short speech by deputy chief minister Y Patton, and vote of thanks by, PHED and Cooperation minister Jacob Zhimomi.
Along on BJP councillors of DMC: Meanwhile, talking to media persons after the meeting on the recently-elected BJP councilors of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) alleging neglect by alliance partner NDPP in the election of DMC chairman and deputy chairperson, minister Temjen Imna Along responded that the BJP MLAs had, on behalf of the party, made a request in the spirit of the alliance to accommodate and help the alliance grow stronger by assigning responsibilities to all BJP councillors.
He mentioned that time would be taken for consultation and that the party had apprised its central leaders and chief minister Neiphiu Rio of the request. Along urged everyone not to jump to conclusions that something was wrong in the PDA alliance. “The PDA is going very strong under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio and our central leaders,” he asserted.

- That, the BJP Nagaland unit congratulate BJP-led NDA Government headed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for winning the Lok Sabha General Election 2024 for third consecutive term. The BJP Nagaland Unit unanimously resolves to support the holistic policies and programmes of the BJP-led NDA Government. The various programmes and policies for the economic upliftment of Nagaland are in sync with the aspirations of the people. We extend our fullest support to the Act East Policy, the Northeast Economic Corridor and the numerous socio-economic and infrastructure development schemes being implemented by the NDA Government in Nagaland and the Northeastern region along with the rest of the country.
- On the same lines, we congratulate the PDA Government led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister& BLP Leader Shri Y. Patton for winning the NLA General Election 2023 for second consecutive term. We extend our wholehearted support to the PDA Government.
- The BJP State Executive resolved to reaffirm our unflinching and untiring support to the BLP Leader Shri. Y. Patton and Shri. Benjamin Yepthomi the State President to carry forward the task of guiding and moulding the party and the party workers to a greater height of achievements in implementing the party policies and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

We appreciate all the Naga political groups which have been engaging in peace talks with the GOI, and all the groups which have entered the peace process by heeding the voice of the people so to pave the way for a final settlement. The BJP Nagaland unit appeals to the GOI and the negotiating parties to expedite the process of finalisation so that there can be lasting peace in Nagaland which will positively facilitate the process of all round development and economic upliftment of the State in the near future. - The BJP State Executive resolved to support the proposal made by BJP Legislators for the appointment of Deputy Chairpersons in urban local bodies, where both the BJP and NDPP had contested together, from the BJP. The BJP State Executive further support the demand for accommodation of government nominees from the BJP to the respective municipal and town councils. This step would contribute to maintaining and enhancing the strength of the PDA.
- The BJP State Executive resolved to support the appointment of one government nominee in Dimapur Municipal Council, from minority community.
- In order to ensure continuity of the core values and maintain the sanctity of the BJP party, the BJP State Executive hereby resolves that only the names of active party karyakartas shall be recommended for positions such as PDA members, PSU chairpersons etc. No other recommendations will be entertained or considered under any circumstances.
- In order to ensure merit and structural integrity, the BJP State Executive has resolved that, recommendation of persons for filling up positions in the State Level Morcha’s will be accepted only through the District organisational set-up under the leadership of the District President.
- For the interest of the party, the BJP State Executive has resolved for regular joint consultative and coordination meeting between BJP Legislators and State Office Bearers at least once every three month.
- The BJP State Executive has resolved to organise next BJP State Executive meeting at Tuensang District Hq. in the month of November’ 24, further another BJP State Executive meeting will be organised at Noklak District Hq. in the month of April’ 25.
- To strengthen the party at the grassroot and increase the party membership, the BJP State Executive resolves to complete the formation of booth level committee’s in all the polling booth in the State before the next State Executive meeting at Tuensang District Hq.
