State cabinet decides to call off Hornbill Festival

The State cabinet on Tuesday decided to cease all activities at the ongoing Hornbill Festival in view of the public mourning of the deceased at Oting and in deference to the wishes of various civil society organisations not to hold such activities.
Announcing this at a press conference at the Secretariat conference hall here on Tuesday, planning & coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu said that a simple and solemn closing ceremony was held by the Tourism department.
It may be recalled that several apex tribal bodies had withdrawn its members from the respective Morungs and directed them to cease all activities related to the Hornbill Festival, as a mark of respect to those killed on December 4 at Oting village.
