State CIC calls on DoPT secretary

State chief information commissioner I. Meyionen Jamir on Monday, called on secretary, personnel & training, government of India, New Delhi, S. Radha Chauhan and discussed issues with regard to effective implementation of Right to Information (RTI) Act.
According to deputy director & PRO Delhi, during the meeting, misuse of the Act by the RTI applicants “for their personal benefits” and the absence of any punitive provisions to tackle such cases in the Act were discussed.
Meyionen requested for amendment of the Act to incorporate appropriate measures to check the criminal activities by information seekers. S. Radha Chauhan appreciated the chief information commissioner for bringing notice to the aforementioned issues and assured to look into the matter.
