
State excise department Tuesday destroyed seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and drugs worth around Rs. 9,74,200 at the directorate of excise and prohibition, Dimapur.
The IMFL and drugs were seized by excise mobile squad under the superintendent of excise during the period September 22, 2014 to May 25, 2015.
According to assistant commissioner of enforcement, Ghokiho Yeptho, seized articles included 6606 bottles of assorted liquor, 40 kgs of ganja and 240 bottles of cough syrup (randcoex).
Speaking at the destruction programme, additional commissioner of excise, Pitongse Sangtam said that excise personnel despite of shortage in man power has been carrying out “satisfactory” works with regard to seizure and arrest.
Associate pastor, Dimapur Lotha Baptist Church, Yanbemo Lotha while admitting on the failure on the part of some of the church leaders, legislators and bureaucrats has called for combined effort and participation of the masses for total implementation of prohibition act.
Pointing out that excise personnel have the got the onus for saving people’s life, he urged them (excise personnel) to perform their task with responsibilities by setting aside corruption. Yanbemo also suggested for more deployment of excise personnel in order to eradicate the evils of liquor and drugs which was destroying the society.
