
State first Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) program for Opium Addicts was launched, Wednesday, for PHC Changlangshu and PHC Pessao under Tobu subdivision of Mon district at Monyakshu.
While launching the OST centres, DPO (UIP & RCH) Mokokchung Dr. Temsuyanger assured to provide technical support to the OST centre.
SDO (C) Monyakshu Sentilong Ozukum and CHC Tobu Dr. Roko also assured to extend all possible help from their end, for the success of the program.
The program which is a joint venture of department of health and family welfare Nagaland Kohima and Joint Committee Against Opium Addiction (JCAOA) comprises of nine villages under Monyakshu circle- one of the most interior area of Mon district, situated along Indo-Myanmar border
It may be mentioned that the program was initiated by the likeminded community of nine villages under Monyakshu circle, who were against the mass consumption of opium and wanted to bring about changes.
Meanwhile the nine villages have thanked minister of health and family welfare P. Longon for his support and for making such unique programme happen in such remote part of the state.
The community has also expressed gratitude to the department of health and family welfare Kohima for providing buprenorphine drugs and NSACS for the technical guidance and supervision given to the OST centre and staffs.
