In a major relief to building and other construction workers, the State government has decided to transfer Rs 2,000 each to bank accounts of all such workers registered with the labour department.
Pointing out that it would be able to transfer the benefit only to those beneficiaries whose bank accounts were active, the labour department appealed to all the beneficiaries with dormant bank accounts to immediately activate them to help the department make seamless transaction.
The amount will be debited from the Cess Fund and, till date, the department has registered 30,797 beneficiaries. The department has worked out all technical details of the registered beneficiaries and transfer of the benefits had started successfully through DBT.
As huge displacement of daily wage workers, especially construction workers, was taking place all over the country and leading to loss of earning, thereby causing extreme hardships to them and their families as these workers usually sustained their livelihood on daily wage, the Central government desired that respective State governments provide adequate financial assistance to such identified category of workers.
Hence, the government decided to offer the financial assistance, stated a DIPR release.
