KOHIMA, SEP 23 (NPN): The State-Level ‘Catch Them Young’ U-14 Sepaktakraw Tournament 2026 concluded on Tuesday at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, with St. John Higher Secondary School, Mon, clinching the Boys Regu championship title.
The winning team comprised P. Mommei Konyak, Mopa M. Yinnyei Manlem, Hongkam Konyak and Kamnyie Konyak. Green Valley School Mon secured second place, while Bethel Baptist Higher Secondary School Niuland, finished third. Sangti P was adjudged Best Player in the boys’ category.
In the Girls Regu event, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Viswema, representing Kohima district, emerged champions. The team included Puanglu Riamei, Ganriumei Amelia Gonmei, Kungpuilu Kamei and Gaikungna Kamei. Mungleu Valley School, Peren, took second position, while St. Mary High School, Mon, finished third. Puanglu Riamei was declared Best Player in the girls’ category.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Youth Resources & Sports Department, Anthony Ngullie, congratulated the winners for showcasing their talent and urged them to continue their dedication and hard work in future competitions. “Keep looking ahead, keep practising and keep your focus to do better in the next edition of this state-level Sepak Takraw tournament,” he encouraged.
Prizes were presented by Anthony Ngullie, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose and president of the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Bithungo Kikon. The ceremony was chaired by Additional Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Jakedovo Chase, while Joint Director, Nyuvitho Nyuthe, proposed the vote of thanks.
Organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports in collaboration with ANPSA, the tournament witnessed participation from 27 schools across 12 districts, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for Sepaktakraw among young athletes in Nagaland.
