Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day organized by the department of health and family welfare scheduled to be held on Tuesday at LCS building Kohima has been postponed owing to communication gap.
Official at the programme regretted for the inconveniences caused to the few gatherings stating that the targeted group of the event, the traders could not be reached.
The official said since only few traders could make it (while the minimum has to be around 40/50 traders) and with the permission of the chief medical officer and Kohima Municipal council, it was postponed to October 24 at 8.30 am.
The official also regretted for the inconvenience and said that message was not reached to the targeted groups.
Meanwhile, according to the details provided by the department, non iodised salt is banned under the provision of PFA act 1954, and is still enforced in the state.
It added that any trader found selling non-iodised salt for human consumption is liable for prosecution under the provision of the PFA Act.
It also directed the shopkeepers to sell only iodised salt.
Further, it asked the consumer to purchase only iodised salt, store in closed containers, proper place, not near or above fireplace stating that iodised salt should not be stored for more than six months.
On Monday, the global iodine deficiency disorders day was observed in Dimapur and Mokokchung, where the stockists and traders were asked to sell only iodised salt.
