State level training on micro-irrigation under PMKSY was conducted on February 27 at conference hall, Horticulture directorate, Kohima, organised by Horticulture department in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), ministry of Jal Shakti, India.
According to DIPR report, while delivering the keynote address, Qhutovi Wotsa, additional director of Horticulture stated that climate change was affecting the whole world including Nagaland and its impact on water supply was complex.
In this he informed that the training was aimed at the importance of an efficient use of water through micro irrigation and how to reduce water wastage. Wotsa also mentioned that through Pradhan Mantra Krishi Yojana (PMKSY) scheme, the people would learn to improve their water use in order to reduce wastage of water.
While delivering the introductory note on NERIWALM, Dr. U.M. Hazarika associate professor (WRE), NERIWALM & KVK enlightened on the importance of the involvement of information and technology (IT) to improve the performance in technical sectors such as e-transactions, e-process etc.
He also said that one of the main tasks of NERIWALM was to provide consultancy services to the government, local bodies and other organisations in water and land management for irrigation and agriculture.
Resource persons Arunjyoti Sonowal scientist (junior) from College of Agriculture, AAU, Biswanath Chariali discussed on design of micro irrigation and fertigation techniques and maintenance of micro irrigation system, while young professional, Toushif Ali displayed demonstration of components of drip irrigation system during the technical session.
