State level workshop on medico-legal care

State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW)-Women Helpline (WHL) 181 Nagaland, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) in collaboration with department of Health and Family Welfare conducted state level workshop on medico-legal care for survivors of sexual violence on October 29 at the conference hall of Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima.

A press release from SCRW Nagaland stated that, Dr. Atoshe Sema, additional director, NHP and state programme officer RCH, H&FW spoke on strengthening convergence with the health sector. 

He emphasized on the fact that departments cannot work in isolation when it comes to helping the survivors of sexual violence, and that more of such workshops should be conducted in the future as well. The workshop was moderated by Gracy Ayee, state coordinator, SRCW. BanoVinito, chairperson, NSSWB gave the introduction, and she stressed on the need for convergence of the line departments to reach out to the target group, in this case, the survivors of sexual violence. 

Resource persons in the technical session included Meneno V, research officer, SRCW, Gracy Ayee, state coordinator, SRCW, Dr. S Manyau Phom, deputy director, NHM, Vitsino Iralu, legal consultant, WHL and Lanurenla Imchen helpline manager, WHL-181.

The workshop was attended by medical officers, GNM, and functionaries of the Sakhi-OSCs from the districts. On October 30, the SRCW and Women Helpline-181, under the NSSWB organized another workshop at the NSSWB conference hall for the functionaries of the Sakhi-One Stop Centres on legal mechanisms to handle gender-based violence. Bano Vinito gave the introduction, and the resource persons were Gracy Ayee, Vitsino Iralu and Lanurenla Imchen.
