State likely to get Early Warning System soon

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has instructed the Ministry of Earth Sciences to follow up the proposal made by lone Nagaland Rajya Sabha member S. Phangnon Konyak, to install an Early Warning System (EWS) in Nagaland.


In a post on X, Rajya Sabha member, S. Phangnon Konyak expressed gratitude to Union Minister Dr.Jitendra Singh for his “instant response to my request”, to have an Early Warning System installed in Nagaland.


“This magnanimous gesture will be kindly remembered and acknowledged by the people of my state,” S. Phangnon Konyak stated. She highlighted that the Early Warning System (EWS) would play a crucial role in earthquake monitoring and early warnings; extreme weather warnings viz. heatwaves, cold waves, heavy rainfall, floods etc.; lightning and thunderstorm warnings; landslides early warnings and other timely early warnings for disaster preparedness and mitigation.


Konyak said that EWS would “undoubtedly” help safeguard lives and properties, given the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
