World Menopause Day was commemorated for the first time in Nagaland at WSBAK Prayer Centre, Henivi Village on October 18, 2025, with a programme aimed at raising awareness and promoting holistic health for women in midlife.
Delivering the keynote address, counsellor and author of Menopause: Embracing Your Midlife, Alokali Zhimomi, underscored the importance of understanding menopause and its impact on women’s health. She highlighted the global significance of the observance, initiated by the International Menopause Society in 2009, and emphasized the role of lifestyle medicine in managing menopausal symptoms.
Citing the IMS White Paper (2025), Zhimomi shared practical strategies for symptom management through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, emotional wellbeing, and nurturing relationships.
The event was chaired by counsellor Khekatoli Kiba of WSBAK Prayer Centre and provided a safe and supportive space for 26 women participants to share personal experiences and engage in breakout discussions and a Q&A session.
As part of the initiative, sanitary napkins were distributed to all participants, the organisers informed.
