National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland state unit has affirmed its endorsement to the stand of its National president and chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
In a press note, NPP state secretary (org) Samuel Sumi reminded that NPP was the first party to reject CAB as the identity and the rights of the North East people was central to the vision and political aspiration of the NPP. NPP reiterated it was totally against intent that would destabilise demographics and its regressive impact on land resources and also affecting the socio-economic equation in the region.
State NPP said it was against CAB since the beginning and would continue to extend support to fight against it in Nagaland. The party said it would at the same time continue to extend its solidarity with people of the Northeast at this crucial juncture.
Meanwhile, the party has acknowledged the PDA Cabinet Resolution in “out rightly” rejecting the CAB. NPP said its party leaders and unit was closely monitoring the outcome of the proposed CAB and would “take recourse to an appropriate action accordingly.”
