KOHIMA: To commemorate the 62nd Independence Day, various organizations were carried out visitations to institutions and provided refreshments as follows: Kohima Orphanage – Lions Club ,T.B. Hospital, Khuzama – Contractors’ Union , Eden Garden Orphanage, Khuzama – Rotary Club ,Naga Hospital – Hindu Parishad & Muslim Welfare Society , Leprosy Colony – Gorkha Panchayat , Old Age Home – Elken Club ,Bara Khana for Ex-Servicemen – 26th Assam Rifles, Mental Hospital – Red Cross Society ,Mt. Gilead Home & Cradle Ridge – Kerela Club , Decorative Flags – KCCI Kohima , District Jail – RCS State Branch and NNP+ – Light Club.
In the evening, Prize distribution and cash awards to the contingents were the highlights of the programme. From the armed category, the best contingent was bagged by the 164 Infantry Bn. TA (H&H) Naga and the 78 Bn. CRPF was adjudged as the second position. From the unarmed organisation, the best contingent was bagged by No. 1 N/L Air Sqdn. NCC and second position by the 66 N/L (Independent) Coy NCC. From the category of school contingents, the first position was bagged by the Sainik School and the second position was secured by the Mezhür Higher Secondary School , Kohima, besides band display by Nagaland Police Brass Band and Pipe Band of the 26th Assam Rifles. MOKOKCHUNG: 62nd India’s Independence Day was successfully celebrated here at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Shri Kuzholuzo, Minister Health & Family Welfare Nagaland as the Chief Guest. The chief guest upon his arrival at the venue, the tri-color flag was ceremoniously unfurled followed by the inspection of parade. After his speech, the chief guest saluted the march past contingents. This year there were 14 march past contingents led by Parade Commander K. Nrilo Himb Asst. Commandant 2nd NAP Alichen and 2nd Commander Inspector G.L Sumi of 2nd NAP Alichen. The parade contingents included 150 Bn CRPF, 2nd NAP, DEF Mokokchung, NCC Fazl Ali College, NCC Dilong Govt. High School, NCC Senayangba GHSS, NCC Mayangnokcha GHSS, Queen Mary School, GHS Dilong (Scouts & Guides), Mayangnokcha GHSS (Scouts & Guides), Town HSS, Ex-Servicemen. The band party for the parade was from the 30 Assam Rifles.
The I-Day celebration today also saw the presentation of cultural items including Kukri Dance by 30 Assam Rifles, Sepak Takraw demonstration, Reminiscence of the Past, a play by RIELET, Gandhi Ashram Chuchuyimlang, Cultural Club Khensa, Chuchuyimpang village council, AKM and Hindi Group Dance by CRPF. After the cultural program, the chief guest inaugurated the exhibition stalls set by ATMA, Agri, Horti, Veterinary and so on. Later an exhibition football match will be played between Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club Vs OCYA and was followed by Retreat at 1600 hrs.
The I-day celebration today saw people turning out in huge numbers. One can see the enthusiasm with the people as they came to the venue to enjoy the celebration. Adding colors to the celebration was the additional stalls of entertainment where people thronged the jam-packed in every stalls of entertainment.

WOKHA: 62nd Indian Independence was celebrated with state Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen as the chief guest at local ground, Wokha. Addressing the gathering the chief guest announced that DAN government has decided to create a New National Highway wing under Roads and Bridges department. The Department of Youth Resources & Sports had opened another sports academy under the infrastructure of Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima with two disciplines of archery and taekwondo.
Presentation of folk song by Wokha Town Lakhuti Women Club, short play based on agriculture by Yikhium Cultural Club, festival dance by Wokha village and band display by 40 Assam Rifles were some of the highlights of the celebration.
