In observance of Vigilance Awareness Week (from October 29 to November 3), Nagaland State organized a brief function under the theme “Eradicate Corruption-Build a New India”, at Civil Secretariat conference hall on Monday.
Secretary Home Rovilato Mor read out the circular of Central Vigilance Commission New Delhi.
He said the central vigilance commission, as the apex integrity institution of the country, endeavours to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life to pursue the vision of the Government of India in making a New India by 2022, the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.
Mor said observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year was part of a multi-pronged approach of the Commission where a key strategy was to encourage stakeholders to collectively participate in the prevention of, and fight against corruption and to raise public awareness regarding corruption.
He said the Commission had decided that 2018 Vigilance Awareness Week would be observed from October 29 to November 3. The CVC message stated that corruption can be defined as dishonest or unethical conduct by a person entrusted with a position of authority, either to obtain benefits for oneself or for some other person.
It added that corruption undermines political, democratic, economic development, the environment, and people’s health. The message, therefore, said it was imperative that the public be sensitized and motivated towards efforts to weed out corruption. The message asserted that e-governance and systemic changes in procedures, minimal discretion, reduced public interface, technology based procurement and automation will go a long way in reducing corruption.
Thereby it said the commission had been advising all organizations/departments to identify and implement effective preventive measures to fight corruption and to enhance transparency and accountability in their functioning.
The message appealed to all organizations to strive to eradicate corruption in their activities.
An integrity pledge for citizens was taken by the attendees present at the function.
DIPR adds: The Directorate of Information & Public Relations also observed the Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 at its conference hall on October 29.
Officers and staff of the directorate also took the oath and signed the integrity pledge which was administered by additional director IPR, Z Tokishe Sema.
The week was also marked at DC conference Hall, Phek on October 29. The program was chaired by Luchui Fithu, EAC Phek, Hq who also delivered a short speech.
Later Integrity Pledge was administered by the EAC to officers and staff of the district.
Dimapur Airport: The week is also being celebrated at Dimapur Airport and on October 29 it started with the inauguration of and Integrity Club at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak, Dimapur by Airport director, Mughavi Zhimo followed by administration of the pledge to students by the director and and Umesh Chandra, principal Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dimapur.
According to a press release by the Airport director, the observance kick-started with administration of the integrity pledge to the AAI, Airlines and other staff.
A help desk has also been set up to enable citizen to take and e-pledge at the Airport. Altogether, 26 citizens took the e-pledge, and according to the release, prominent among them were K. Therie, president NPCC and Abhishek Singh, commissioner & secretary to the chief minister.
The Airport authorities have also planned further activities for the weeklong event.
