
Out of Nagaland’s 2,000 rural habitations, 48.76% has been covered by water supply, while 51.3% remains partially covered.
Disclosing this during his speech at the conference of State ministers on Water Conservation, Rural Drinking Water Supply and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday and convened by Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Nagaland PHED minister N Jacob Zhimomi sought Centre’s assistance in helping the State government reach out to all the remaining areas by 2024.
He also congratulated Shekhawat on behalf of chief minister Neiphiu Rio for taking over charge of the Union Jal Shakti ministry.
According to PRO of Nagaland House, Delhi, the Union minister agreed to take up Zhimomi’s appeal for helping the State in providing water supply to all areas in right earnest.
Earlier during the meet, Shekhawat interacted with the State PHED ministers and reviewed water resources conservation efforts, besides discussing action plan for conservation of water resources in the future.
Stressing corporative federalism among the States and rational use of water in the country, he mentioned that the drinking water and water resources departments had been amalgamated to form the Union Jal Shakti Ministry.
All the participating ministers congratulated Shekhawat for convening the meeting within a short span of time after formation of the new government and creation of the new ministry “Jal Shakti Mantralaya” and assured to work together under his leadership.
Nagaland water resources commissioner & secretary also attended the meeting, which ended with a brief note from the Jal Shakti ministry secretary.
